3. Verify the wheel

Disc diameter is not a flange-fit item. Once the inner flange is seated on the spindle, 4-1/2", 5", 7", and 9" wheels all mount on the same flange face and the same non-threaded 7/8" arbor. Check diameter only against the grinder's own guard and speed limits above — flange fit is decided by the spindle thread and the arbor.

5. Power-off and pre-use decision

Disconnect power before installation or a wheel change. Wait for a complete stop before touching the wheel or mounting hardware. Tighten the retained outer lock nut firmly at every wheel change. On a hand-release flange system, release only after a complete stop: switch OFF, press the spindle LOCK, then TWIST the flange BACK by hand. Follow every manufacturer inspection, guard, tightening, and check-run instruction.

What actually decides angle grinder accessory fit?

Two measurements decide accessory fit on an angle grinder: the spindle thread — commonly 5/8"-11 in North America — and the wheel's arbor size, commonly 7/8". Wheel diameter, wheel brand, and disc type do not answer the fit question. Copy the spindle thread from the grinder's official manual, then match every accessory and flange against that documented thread.

Why is my angle grinder nut stuck?

An angle grinder's outer nut self-tightens in use: cutting torque drives the wheel against the clamp and wedges the nut tighter, especially under thin cutting discs. That is physics, not a defect. Does disc diameter matter for flange compatibility?
